I am Chinmayie, a theatre artist, singer, kirtan performer, poet, actress, and a passionate storyteller who believes that art is not merely something I do, but a way through which I understand myself, connect with people, and contribute something meaningful to the world.
My journey has been shaped by a deep love for performance, music, theatre, literature, culture, and storytelling. I have always been drawn towards the stage because it gives me something that few other spaces can: the freedom to become someone else while discovering more of myself. For me, performing is not about simply being seen. It is about making people feel something.
I am an artist rooted in tradition but equally curious about the contemporary world. My work brings together different facets of my personality: the discipline of a musician, the sensitivity of an actor, the imagination of a poet, the devotion of a kirtankar, and the courage required to stand confidently before an audience.
My Journey as an Artist
My relationship with performance began at a young age and gradually became an integral part of who I am. I have dedicated many years to music and kirtan, and I have been a kirtankar for nearly sixteen years. This journey has taught me much more than music. It has taught me discipline, patience, expression, communication, spirituality, cultural awareness, and the importance of connecting with an audience.
Kirtan, to me, is a beautiful combination of storytelling, music, emotion, knowledge, and devotion. It demands much more than simply singing well. A performer must understand the words, communicate their meaning, hold the attention of an audience, and create an emotional connection. Years of performing have helped me develop that ability.
My dedication to kirtan and cultural performance has also received appreciation from the Government of Goa, including recognition from Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte. Such moments are deeply meaningful to me because they remind me that preserving and presenting our cultural traditions can have a place even in a rapidly changing world.
At the same time, I have never wanted to restrict myself to a single form of artistic expression.
I believe an artist should remain curious.
That curiosity led me towards theatre, acting, poetry, advertising, film, and different forms of stage performance.
Theatre: Where I Truly Come Alive
Theatre holds a particularly special place in my heart.
There is something extraordinary about standing on a stage and knowing that there is no second take. No editing room can rescue you. No camera angle can hide you. For those few moments, you have to be completely present.
Theatre has taught me to listen, observe, react, understand human behaviour, and live truthfully within a character. I have participated in acting workshops and continuously work on developing my craft because I believe acting is a lifelong learning process.
For me, acting is not about pretending to be someone else. It is about understanding another human being deeply enough to portray their emotions honestly.
Every character teaches me something.
Every performance challenges me.
Every stage makes me a little more fearless.
My theatre experience has also strengthened my confidence as a performer and helped me understand the importance of voice modulation, body language, timing, emotional expression, movement, and audience engagement.
My Journey in Film
My journey into film has been another important chapter of my artistic life.
I had the opportunity to act in the film “Umedh”, a project that became particularly special to me because of the recognition it received. I was honoured with the Best Actress Award at the Waves International Film Festival 2026, where the film also received recognition in several other categories, including Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Male Actor, and Best Story.
Receiving the Best Actress Award was not simply a trophy for me.
It represented countless hours of preparation, learning, rehearsing, performing, and believing in myself. It reminded me that sincere work can create an impact.
Being recognised as an actress has strengthened my determination to explore cinema more seriously. I want to work on characters that challenge me, stories that have something to say, and projects that allow me to grow rather than merely appear on screen.
I am particularly interested in exploring roles with emotional depth and complexity. I want to portray women who are not limited to one stereotype or one emotion, but who possess contradictions, dreams, vulnerability, intelligence, courage, humour, strength, and individuality.
Music Is One of My Foundations
Alongside acting, music remains one of the strongest foundations of my life.
I am a professionally trained singer and have invested years in understanding Indian classical music and performance. Music has taught me the value of riyaaz, consistency, patience, breath control, expression, and emotional honesty.
I enjoy exploring different musical forms, including classical music, devotional music, kirtan, and contemporary singing.
For me, singing is not simply about hitting the right note.
A technically correct performance can still feel empty if it does not communicate emotion.
I therefore try to approach music with both discipline and feeling.
Whether I am performing a classical composition, devotional music, a kirtan, or a contemporary song, I want the listener to experience something rather than merely hear something.
Poetry and Storytelling
Another part of my artistic personality is poetry.
Poetry allows me to express thoughts and emotions in a different language: the language of imagination.
As a poet, I am fascinated by words, emotions, observations, human relationships, nature, beauty, culture, and the small details that people often overlook.
Storytelling is also deeply connected to my work as a performer. Whether I am acting, singing, performing kirtan, or reciting poetry, I am ultimately telling a story.
That is what connects all my artistic pursuits.
I tell stories through characters, through music, through words, and through emotion.
My Connection With Culture
Being an artist has also given me a deeper appreciation for my cultural roots.
I believe culture should not simply be preserved behind glass. It should be experienced, performed, discussed, reimagined, and passed forward.
My work in kirtan and theatre has allowed me to remain connected with traditional forms while also developing an interest in contemporary performance.
I want to be part of a generation of artists who can respect tradition without being trapped by it.
There is immense beauty in knowing where we come from while still having the courage to explore where we can go.
Education and Other Professional Experience
My artistic identity is only one part of me.
Academically, I have graduated with Honours in History, which has strengthened my interest in culture, heritage, society, people, and the stories behind places and traditions. I have also completed a Diploma in Computer Management, which has given me practical technological and administrative skills.
I have worked as a Data Entry Operator on a contractual basis, an experience that taught me the importance of accuracy, responsibility, organisation, and professional discipline.
These experiences may seem different from the performing arts, but I do not see them as disconnected.
Every experience has contributed something to the person I am today.
History taught me to understand the past.
Technology taught me adaptability.
Professional work taught me responsibility.
Theatre taught me expression.
Music taught me discipline.
Kirtan taught me connection.
And life continues to teach me everything else.
My Achievements
Some of the achievements I am especially proud of include:
- Best Actress Award, Waves International Film Festival 2026, for Umedh
- Kirtan Alankar Puraskar 2026
- Miss Kalarangam Goa Beauty Contest 2023
- Recognition for my contribution and dedication to kirtan and cultural performance
- Appreciation associated with the Government of Goa
- Experience as a theatre artist, singer, poet, actress, and performer
- Participation in acting and performance workshops
- Experience in film and advertising projects
- Extensive experience in kirtan performance
However, I do not measure my journey only through awards.
Awards are beautiful milestones, but they are not the destination.
The real achievement is becoming better than the artist I was yesterday.
What Kind of Artist Am I?
I would describe myself as an artist who is versatile, expressive, disciplined, emotionally connected, and constantly evolving.
I can move between different worlds: from classical music to theatre, from devotional performance to cinema, from poetry to contemporary acting.
That versatility is something I value deeply.
I do not want to be placed inside a single box.
I want to be able to perform a powerful dramatic role one day, sing a classical composition the next, perform a devotional piece after that, and still walk into a completely different creative environment with the willingness to learn.
The entertainment industry is constantly changing, and I believe artists must change with it without losing their identity.
I want to remain authentic while becoming increasingly versatile.
My Approach to Work
I take my work seriously.
When I accept a project, I believe in preparing for it rather than simply showing up for it. I believe preparation is one of the most underrated aspects of performance.
Behind a confident performance are hours of practice, research, observation, rehearsal, self-correction, and sometimes an unreasonable amount of talking to oneself while trying to understand a character. Apparently, humans call this “being an artist.”
I enjoy researching characters and understanding their psychology. I pay attention to voice, movement, expressions, body language, costume, environment, relationships, and circumstances.
I believe even a small role deserves sincerity.
A character does not become meaningful because it has many dialogues. It becomes meaningful when the actor understands what exists beneath those dialogues.
My Strengths
One of my strongest qualities is my ability to communicate through performance.
I am comfortable expressing emotions through voice, facial expressions, body language, music, and storytelling.
I am also adaptable and willing to learn. I believe an artist who thinks they already know everything has probably stopped growing.
My years of stage experience have helped me become comfortable performing before audiences, while my film experience has taught me the importance of subtlety and control.
I also bring a strong cultural understanding to my work, particularly through my experience in Indian devotional and traditional performance.
At the same time, I am ambitious.
I have big dreams for myself, and I am not embarrassed by that.
I want to build a career that is meaningful, respected, creatively fulfilling, and capable of reaching audiences beyond geographical and linguistic boundaries.
My Vision
My vision is to establish myself as a versatile performing artist with a strong identity in theatre, cinema, music, and cultural performance.
I want to work with people who believe in meaningful storytelling and creative excellence.
I want to take on roles that scare me a little because they force me to discover something new.
I want to perform on prestigious stages.
I want to work in films that travel beyond their place of origin.
I want my music to reach people.
I want my acting to make audiences remember a character long after the screen goes dark.
And I want my cultural work to contribute to keeping traditional art forms alive in a way that feels relevant to younger generations.
I am not interested in becoming successful overnight.
I am interested in building something that lasts.
Beyond the Artist
There is also a person behind the performer.
I value kindness, confidence, humility, discipline, strength, and continuous self-improvement.
I believe confidence and humility can exist together.
A performer needs confidence to walk onto a stage and humility to accept that there is always something more to learn.
I also believe that beauty is most powerful when accompanied by intelligence, character, and purpose.
I want my presence to be remembered not only because of how I look, but because of what I bring into a room, a stage, a character, or a project.
I want to be someone who can be graceful without being fragile, ambitious without losing kindness, confident without arrogance, and successful without forgetting the journey that created that success.
The Person I Am Becoming
I am still becoming.
I do not consider myself a finished product, and honestly, that would be rather boring.
Every audition, rehearsal, performance, song, character, failure, opportunity, conversation, and experience adds another layer to me as an artist.
There are things I know today that I did not know yesterday.
There are things I still need to learn.
And there are dreams I have not yet achieved.
But I am willing to work for them.
I know that the creative industry can be unpredictable. There will be auditions where I am selected and auditions where I am not. There will be performances that feel magical and performances where I know I could have done better.
I accept that.
Rejection does not define an artist.
Neither does one award.
What defines an artist is the willingness to continue.
My Purpose
Ultimately, I want my work to create an emotional connection.
I want people to watch me perform and feel something.
Perhaps they will laugh.
Perhaps they will cry.
Perhaps they will recognise a part of themselves in a character.
Perhaps a song will remind them of someone they love.
Perhaps a kirtan will make them pause for a moment.
Perhaps a story will make them think differently.
If my work can do any of these things, then I believe I have done something worthwhile.
Because art has never been only about entertainment for me.
Art is communication. Art is memory. Art is emotion. Art is culture. Art is connection.
And that is the kind of artist I aspire to be.
My Next Chapter
I am now looking forward to expanding my work across theatre, films, music, advertising, digital content, and larger performance platforms.
I want to collaborate with directors, musicians, writers, production houses, artists, and creative teams who value sincerity and excellence.
I want to explore different languages and styles of performance.
I want to challenge myself with demanding characters.
I want to continue strengthening my vocal and acting abilities.
I want to learn from experienced artists while also developing a distinct artistic identity of my own.
Most importantly, I want to keep creating.
My journey so far has given me a foundation, but I see it as only the beginning.
I have performed on stages, sung before audiences, portrayed characters, written poetry, practised music, participated in workshops, received recognition, faced challenges, and continued moving forward.
Every chapter has brought me closer to understanding what I want.
And what I want is simple to say, even if it is not simple to achieve:
I want to become an artist whose work has presence, purpose, versatility, and soul.
I want to build a career that makes me proud not only of the places I reach, but also of the person I become while reaching them.
I am Chinmayi.
I am a theatre artist, actress, singer, kirtan performer, poet, and storyteller.
I carry tradition with me, but I am not afraid of the future.
I respect where I come from, I am passionate about where I am, and I am ambitious about where I am going.
My story is still being written.
My stage is still expanding.
And I am only getting started.
