Deva Katta (born 24 May 1976 in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, India) is an Indian‑American filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer primarily known for his work in Telugu cinema. He grew up in Andhra Pradesh before moving to Chennai, and later went to the United States, where he earned a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit. Before entering films, he worked as a vehicle crashworthiness expert at General Motors. His early interest in storytelling led him to create short documentaries and television serials about the experiences of Indian students in the U.S., which paved the way for his feature film debut with the romantic comedy Vennela (2005). Katta gained widespread recognition with the political drama Prasthanam (2010), which was showcased in the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India and earned both Filmfare South and Nandi awards. He is known for his socially conscious storytelling and films that explore political and societal issues, including Autonagar Surya (2014) and Republic (2021). He continues to work on projects that combine entertainment with meaningful narratives, including his upcoming web series Mayasabha, further cementing his reputation as a director who tackles complex themes in contemporary Telugu cinema.
