Nikhil Thombare
Nikhil Thombare is a Mumbai-based stage and screen actor trained in Method Acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, New York. With a foundation in both Indian theatre and international conservatory training, he brings a unique blend of emotional truth, physical discipline, and cultural versatility to his work.
Born and raised in India, Nikhil’s journey as a performer began at an early age through theatre, dance, music, and performance competitions. Drawn to storytelling and human behavior from childhood, he continued pursuing the arts while completing degrees in Physics and Business Administration before ultimately committing himself fully to a career in acting.
Seeking deeper artistic training, Nikhil moved to New York and completed the prestigious One-Year Conservatory Program at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, where he trained extensively in Method Acting, Acting for Camera, Voice & Speech, Movement, Improvisation, Scene Study, Shakespeare, and Theatre Production. During his time in New York, he studied under renowned mentors including Lola Cohen, Robert Ellermann, Jacqueline Jacobus, Jeffery Ferguson, and Bruce Baumer, all of whom helped shape his approach to truthful and emotionally grounded performance.
Over the course of his conservatory training, Nikhil performed in more than 50 stage scenes and 30+ on-camera projects, working across contemporary drama, classical theatre, improvisation, and screen performance. His theatre work includes scenes and performances from celebrated playwrights such as Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Lanford Wilson, William Shakespeare, Horton Foote, and Laura Eason.
Nikhil’s screen work includes the short film Izzy (2025), directed by Mai Benezra. His stage experience spans both New York and Mumbai, including performances at iconic venues such as Prithvi Theatre and Veda Kunba Theatre. Most recently, he portrayed Captain in the acclaimed Mumbai theatre production Danger Dings, directed by Sheetal Robinson.
As an actor, Nikhil is particularly drawn to complex, layered characters navigating questions of identity, ambition, morality, vulnerability, and human connection. His work is heavily influenced by the principles of emotional honesty and psychological depth championed by Lee Strasberg’s Method. He believes that great performances emerge not from imitation, but from genuine human experience and truthful behavior under imaginary circumstances.
Beyond acting, Nikhil’s artistic interests extend into writing, directing, visual arts, and storytelling. He studied painting, sketching, and art history at the New York School of the Arts, experiences that continue to influence his understanding of character, composition, and visual storytelling. His multidisciplinary background allows him to approach performance through a broader creative lens.
Nikhil also possesses an unusually diverse skill set that contributes to his versatility as a performer. He is trained in Krav Maga, stage combat, physical theatre, salsa, and tap dance, and is comfortable performing physically demanding roles. He is fluent in English, Hindi, and Marathi and can perform in General American, Received Pronunciation (RP), and Indian English accents. Additionally, he holds a Private Pilot License, reflecting his commitment to discipline, precision, and lifelong learning.
Having lived, trained, and performed in both India and the United States, Nikhil brings a global perspective to his work while remaining deeply connected to his Indian roots. He is passionate about stories that explore universal human experiences while remaining culturally authentic and emotionally resonant.
Whether portraying a contemporary protagonist, historical figure, action-driven character, or emotionally complex antihero, Nikhil approaches every role with curiosity, rigor, and a commitment to truth. His goal as an artist is to create performances that connect deeply with audiences and contribute to meaningful storytelling across theatre, cinema, television, and digital platforms.
Nikhil is currently available for feature films, OTT series, television productions, commercials, theatre, short films, and international co-productions.
