About

Konidela Chiranjeevi, born Sivasankara Varaprasad, is an iconic Indian actor, philanthropist, and former politician primarily known for his work in Telugu cinema. Popularly known as 'Mega Star', he holds the record for the most 'Industry Hits' in Telugu cinema's history and is celebrated for his exceptional dancing skills. He debuted in 1978, initially gaining recognition for supporting and antagonist roles before transitioning to highly successful lead roles. His breakthrough came with 'Khaidi' (1983), establishing him as a leading star. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, he delivered numerous blockbusters like 'Pasivadi Pranam', 'Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari', and 'Gang Leader', cementing his status as the 'Boss of Telugu cinema'. His film 'Gharana Mogudu' (1992) was the first South Indian film to gross over ₹10 crore, and for 'Aapadbandhavudu' (1992), he became the first Indian actor to command ₹1 crore remuneration. After a brief career dip, he bounced back with hits like 'Hitler' and 'Indra' (2002), which broke box office records. In 2008, he founded the Praja Rajyam Party, serving as a Rajya Sabha MP and Union Minister of Tourism. After a decade-long hiatus, he made a successful comeback with 'Khaidi No. 150' (2017), followed by critically and commercially successful films like 'Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy' (2019) and 'Waltair Veerayya' (2023). Beyond cinema, Chiranjeevi is a noted philanthropist, establishing the Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust in 1998, which runs large blood and eye banks. He has received numerous honors including the Padma Bhushan (2006), Padma Vibhushan (2024), and a Guinness World Record (2024) for his dance contributions.
