K. E. Gnanavel Raja is a prominent Indian film producer and distributor, primarily active in the Tamil film industry. Born on January 23, 1977, he harbored a childhood interest in filmmaking, often skipping school to watch films. He established his production house, Studio Green, in 2006, marking his debut as a producer with 'Sillunu Oru Kaadhal'. Initially, he focused on producing and distributing films for actors Suriya and Karthi, who are distantly related to him. His collaborations yielded significant successes like 'Paruthiveeran' (2007), 'Singam' (2010), and 'Naan Mahaan Alla' (2010), which also helped expand the market for these actors in Telugu-speaking regions. Raja diversified his portfolio by distributing successful films for other actors, including 'Attakathi' (2012) and 'Kumki' (2012). Despite occasional commercial setbacks, he found success with small-budget, critically acclaimed productions like 'Madras' (2014). Known for his outspoken nature, Gnanavel Raja has been actively involved in industry politics, protesting against piracy, publicly addressing disputes with other filmmakers, and serving as the Secretary of the Tamil Film Producers Council in 2017.
