Praveen Sood is a distinguished Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1986 batch, Karnataka cadre. His extensive career includes serving in various capacities such as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Mysuru, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bellary and Raichur, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Bengaluru. He gained international experience as a Police Advisor to the Government of Mauritius. Later, he held prominent roles like Commissioner of Police in Mysuru and Bengaluru, and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for various departments within Karnataka Police. He was appointed as the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP) of Karnataka Police in 2020 and subsequently became the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in May 2023.
